There is a new driver in town, and he comes by it honestly!
Hamilton, ON – January 22, 2010 – New mom, Ashley McCalmont, and driver on the professional race car circuit, The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge joins her fiancé, who also races, Brennan Didero in welcoming their first son who was born late on Wednesday afternoon. McCalmont had taken a break from professional racing in June 09 when she announced to the racing world she was expecting. McCalmont really wanted to finish the season, and had a hard time walking away from something she worked so hard for. She was second in the series when she announced her impending arrival. During her time off, she dutifully took care of her growing belly, never losing sight of the checkered flag. McCalmont worked out daily and ate only the healthiest foods to both give her baby an optimum start but to also keep in peek condition allowing her to return to her passion.
McCalmont’s labour proved to be difficult but she handled everything with the endurance of an athlete. After 19 hours of hard labour, she had a beautiful baby boy named Jackson Joseph Didero, weighing 8 lbs and 3 ounces. Once the new family has settled in, McCalmont is determined to divide her focus, and start training. Her sights are set on making Virginia her first race back into the professional circuit, taking place on April 23rd.
If you want to see McCalmont before then, she will also be attending the Ideal Home and Garden Show presented by RE/MAX, March 5-7 at the new Careport Centre in Hamilton. McCalmont and her co-driver Kirk Spencer will be available to talk to fans as well as sign autographs, and pose for pictures. The Ideal Home and Garden Show presented by RE/MAX is the largest suburban home show in Southwestern Ontario. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and children, and parking is free. Special attractions include showcase homes, Canada Blooms feature garden, outdoor living home theatre, 360⁰ of painting feature, the RE/MAX VIP kitchen party, and live radio shows.
