McCalmont Racing
Ashley McCalmont’s love for racing developed as a young child.  In her childhood she spent countless hours at the Mosport International Raceway, whatching her father, Mike McCalmont indulge in his lifelong dream of racing cars.  The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and McCalmont recognized his young daughter’s strength and determination and figured she was a sure fit for the sport.
Ashley McCalmont’s racing career began at nine, when she started racing Go-Karts.  On her first race, she flipped the kart, and received many injuries including a shoulder injury that pains her still.
The next step in her career was to join a CASCAR JR racing league.  The league consisted of an oval race once a week in addition to classes and a weekly test on the skills and the etiquette of racing properly.   Ashley McCalmont excelled in the CASCAR JR. circuit until she reached 16, and was finally able to begin training for the career she had prepared for her whole life.
Ashley’s training began in Phoenix, Arizona at the prestigious Bondurant Racing School of High Performance Driving.  She participated in many courses there while perfecting her craft.  McCalmont also participated in open-wheel courses at Mosport International Raceway.
Once satisfied with her ability to perform in a professional setting, Mike McCalmont encouraged his daughter to start her racing career, and the rest is history.  Ashley McCalmont started her professional career in 2007/2008.  The year proved to be both successful and a valuable learning opportunity to the challenges of racing.
With the 2009 racing season just beginning, McCalmont and her co-driver Kirk Spencer are already excited with their results.  The team placed fourth at the first race of the season, and is anxiously waiting many more great results and possibly a couple podium finishes.
Kirk Spencer grew up alongside the race track watching his dad race, always knowing it would play a large role in his future.  Prior to starting his racing career in the early ‘90s Spencer also tried the Go-Kart scene, but realized it didn’t bring the same rush that racing cars did.
Spencer started racing in regional races in the early ‘90’s.  To further his career, he participated in the GT Challenge in Canada and won the championship.
Coming out of the world championship, Spencer decided to try and work behind the scenes as well as in the car.  Spencer was the team manager for Zoom Motorsports from 2001-2007.  He was also the team manager for Mical Motorsports, winning a championship in Canada in 2000.
Currently Spencer holds many titles including, Team Manager, Crew Chief, Engine Builder and Driver for Georgian Bay Motorsports Team.
Kirk Spenser and his co-driver Ashley McCalmont are currently competing in the 2009 KONI Sports Car Challenge.
